Third Grade News and Upcoming Events

The third grade class has entered a 250 piece puzzle as an auction item.  This puzzle is a group shot of the kids taken by Car Hodak and comes in a customized tin to keep all the pieces together.  Please log into the on line silent auction to take a look at the puzzle.

Religion:  We will finish our chapter about the four Marks of the church.  These Marks are:ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC and APOSTOLIC.  This week, the class will learn what it means to be catholic and apostolic in the Church.

Reading:  During the week the students will be reading another Alaskan based story “The Frog Prince.”  As they read the story, the students will also identify words that have consonant digraphs ( or contractions.  

Grammar: The class will review the sounds the pairs ( ai, ay, ea, ee, ie, oa, or, / ue) make and read words that contain the pairs.  We will also practice reading words that contain the vowel digraphs aw, au and ei.    

Spelling:  This week our words contain the r-controlled vowel sound of /ar/.  During the week the students will work with complex consonants, categorizations, and homophones to enhance their understanding of the r-controlled vowel sound of /ar/, 

Math:  The students will begin chapter 7 of our GoMath Series.  This chapter starts the class off learning to divide by 2, 10 and 5.  The students will use these strategies:  repeated subtraction, doubles and number lines to enhance their knowledge.  

Social Studies:  This students will read and learn about what an immigrants life was like when they first arrived in the US.  They will read about the changes in education and why sharing our cultures is so important to the lives of people in the US.

Tuesday:  3/29:  We will be attending 8:00am Mass.  Please join us if your schedule allows.

Friday:  4/1  Auction T-shirt Full dress down day.    Stations of the Cross at 2:30.  Please join us in the Church if you are able to.  

Saturday:  4/2:  Annual Spring Auction in the PC.  Please join the fun and get to know the other parents in the school.

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University. I also have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education as well as being a Certified Catechist.
