Happy New Year and welcome back!!
Our first week back has been wonderful, although I know we are all grateful it’s only three days!
Here are some important things before we get into what we’ve learned:
5th grade has a Consumer Fair Science Project. Every student must test a food or consumer product by Monday. We will test these next week. Information will be sent home today and more information will come.
i-Ready Winter Diagnostic begins next week. Please make sure your child comes to school well-rested and has breakfast. We will test in the mornings.
January 20 – Martin Luther King Day, no school!
January 31 – Red & White Game! Students should come to school wearing a red or white shirt (depending on their team).
Now what we’ve learned:
ELA: We’re back to our phonics book and studying prefixes. The students made study guides instead of having a quiz during this short week.
Science: We will focus on the consumer fair for the next few weeks. We will use concepts that we’ve learned in our earlier units, such as making a fair test, how matter changes, and the properties of matter.
Social Studies: We are working on a great 13 Colonies Commemorative Stamp project. The ones I’ve seen so far are beautiful!
Reading: We’re working really hard on finding the main ideas and key details in articles. This is one of our class goals for the year, and I think we’re getting to be pros at this! We will start a whole class novel study, Number the Stars, next week. We will introduce the setting before we start reading and a copy of the book will be provided to each student.
Religion: We are now starting to study the Eucharist and what it means, what makes this sacrament unique, and how we can celebrate this every week to grow closer to God.
