6th Grade – 8/29/25

Good afternoon 6th grade families!  Welcome back to another school year!  We are going to have a great time in 6th grade!

We are almost finished with our I-Ready Diagnostics.  The students have been working so hard and been doing a great job!  Once the diagnostics is finished, we will move on to working on our individual paths.  Students are required to have at least 45 mins in each subject, every week.

In P.E students have been working on constructing hula huts!  This team created a double decker hula hut! Which Mrs. Gorman says is very challenging for students and requires a lot of teamwork! Nice job to their group!

Math- We will be starting to work with positive and negative integers on a number line.

ELA- We have been working hard on our first 10 vocab words!  The students had a test today and will be having a vocab test each week on new vocabulary.  We are working our way to 100 vocabulary words!  Please make sure students are studying at home.  We practice using these vocabulary words a variety of ways throughout the week!  We have also practiced some creative writing skills.  The students are also required to write a journal every morning.  They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester.

6th Literature- The 6th graders have been reading an autobiography called “Little by Little”.  We have had some great discussions throughout reading.

7th Literature- The 7th graders have read two stories so far!  We have had some great discussions in class.  It’s great to see them all participate and want to read next!  We are going to start reading a short story called “Rip Van Winkle”. We will be working on visualizing the story, along with the theme of the story.

8th Literature-  8th grade has been working on reading “Flowers for Algernon”.  We have been finding different types of irony in the story and thinking about the theme of the story!  They have been working on discussion questions for homework.  We are almost finished with this story and will have be working on a project on this story next.  Our next story will be “The Kid Nobody Could Handle”

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
