Math- We have taken our GCF and LCM module test this week!  Retest will be taken next week.  We went over the test and students can use the test to study for the retest.  The retest will not be the same test, but will have all the same concepts.  Next week we will review adding and subtracting fractions, and move on to our next module of dividing fractions!

ELA- We have finished our narrative essays and have moved on to writing another essay.  They are writing an essay to answer the question “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”  The students were sent home with permission slips to be able to submit their essays to the local VFW.  This is a great opportunity for students to show off their writing!   The students are also required to write a journal every morning. They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester. We have been working hard on our vocabulary words. The class needs to keep all of their notecards from these vocab words to make sure they have them to study.  There will be a test on the first 5o words we learn.

6th Literature- We have been working on characterizing our two main characters!  Students are making posters on the main characters and comparing their physical characteristics and their personalities.  We will jump back into reading our novel next week!

7th Literature- Students have been spending this week giving their utopian/ Dystopian presentations to the class.  It has been great hearing their ideas of a utopia.  We will continue reading The Giver this upcoming week.  We will have a test next week Friday on Chapters 1-10.

8th Literature- We started talking about the importance of POV in our story and how it changes our perspectives on the story.  We have been talking about how seeing this story through only Katniss’ eyes impacts our reactions.  We are also working on characterization of a few characters.  Students are choosing one character and writing some information about them based on their actions and what other characters say about them.  We will come back to these characters at the end of the novel and see how they have changed.

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
