6th Grade News- 11/21/25

Good evening 6th grade families!

This week has been so exciting!  Our class raised 63 cereal boxes for the food pantry!  We came in 4th place and earned a donut reward since EVERY SINGLE 6th GRADER BROUGHT IN AT LEAST ONE BOX OF CEREAL!! We also had our PBIS assembly today!  Students are finished collecting “Cardinal Dollars” and will now start to collect raffle tickets for showing compassion, respect, and responsibility. I know they will do great and collect plenty of tickets!

I look forward to seeing all the parents at parent teacher conferences on Tuesday!

Math- We have started working on decimal operations.  We have practiced adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals. We will continue practicing these three skills before we move on to dividing fractions, which can be a bit tricky.

ELA- We having been working hard on our grammar skills and continue finding grammar mistakes in different 5 part stories.  We wrote a fun Thanksgiving creative story this past week.  It was fun seeing what all the students wrote about this fun creative writing assignment.  The students are also required to write a journal every morning. They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester, I suggest asking your students to go through and check their journals. We have been working hard on our vocabulary words. We took our first vocabulary test for the second trimester.  I am so impressed with these kids!  Everyone scored an 80% or higher on this vocabulary test!

6th Literature- We completed are last assignment for Freak the Mighty. Students were tasked with creating a one pager assignment, where they needed to include different elements of the story.  They also had to have at least one picture included!  The students have done a great job so far. Next up, we will be reading and analyzing a few different short stories.

7th Literature- We had a fun week!  Students were “assigned” different jobs in our very own mock “Ceremony of Twelve”.  The students were tasked with creating a speech to either accept or appeal their assigned job.  It was great to see the reasonings the students came up with to either appeal or reject. We will be starting back into our literature book right when we get back from break!

8th Literature- Students have been working hard on a characterization project this week. Students were put into groups and had to create posters of their assigned characters.  They had to explain different aspects of their character, as well as color the poster cohesively.  They really did a great job and it was awesome seeing all the posters come together.  We are going to continue reading The Hunger Games, and plan to finish the book when we get back from Thanksgiving break!

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
