6th Grade News- 5/17/26

Good evening 6th grade families!

We have been so busy for the end of the year! The students have been working hard on i-Ready testing!  Almost everyone is already finished!  So proud of their hard work and focus!  We have our Zoo field trip coming up soon!

Important Dates- We have a lot going on this month!

  • 5/19- Brookfield Zoo Field Trip
    • Dining for Dollars at the Wendy’s in Countryside, 4-8pm
  • 5/22- 2pm dismissal
    • No aftercare
  • 5/25- Memorial Day
    • NO SCHOOL
  • 6/2- 8th grade graduation
  • 6/3 –  Field Day; Be on the lookout for more information!  Volunteers are always needed!
  • 6/4- Last Day of School, 11:30 Dismissal

We have been having some issues with students not charging their chromebooks at home.  Please remind your students to plug in their chromebooks everyday.  They need their chromebooks fully charged for a lot of their classes.

Math- We are starting our new unit on Monday!! Students have worked hard learning about equations and now we are going to look at equations in tables and graphs.  This might be a little tricky but i’m sure the kids will get the hang of it.

ELA- We are starting our argumentative essay on who students think is the “G.O.A.T” of basketball.  We just started. Students have researched who they believe is the best and students are working on their introduction paragraphs. The students are also required to write a journal every morning. They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester, I suggest asking your students to go through and check their journals

6th Literature- We are reading “Wonder”.  The students are enjoying this book! It is perfect to finish out our year!   Students should be reading every night even though we are not doing the reading log. This should be a book of their choosing, that they read for at least 20 mins each night.

7th Literature-  We have finished “Holes”. We are read this book for our next battle of the books activity.  We are currently watching the movie and will end the year with a few short stories.

8th Literature-  We have finished “Animal Farm” and started reading a few short stories to end our year!  The 8th graders are getting close to their end here at St. Cletus.

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
