6th Grade News- 9/15/25

Good evening 6th grade families!

we are continuing to do a great job in 6th grade!   The students have earned their first reward of the year!  They have been working hard on being quiet in the hall and following all expectations.  They have earned an ice cream party that will be held on Thursday! IM SO PROUD of their hard work!

We have started going to Mass with our buddies in Junior Kindergarten.  Please make sure students arrive on time for Mass!  We don’t want to keep our buddies waiting.

Shout out to these students!

Our first grade teacher Ms. McNicholas let me know how kind they were to her and her students during fall fest!

ELA- We have been working hard on our second set of vocabulary words. The class needs to keep all of their notecards from these vocab words to make sure they have them to study.  There will be a test on the first 5o words we learn.  The students are also required to write a journal every morning. We will begin next week writing our first personal narrative!  They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester.

6th Literature- The 6th graders have been reading a variety of stories and informational text.  We have started reading our very first novel “Freak the Mighty”.  We are so excited to start this story.  We will be reading in class, having discussions, and answering plenty of comprehension questions.

7th Literature- The 7th graders have finished “Rip Van Winkle” and will be taking their final test on this short story.  This one was a hard one, with some very hard vocabulary.  The students pushed through!  We will be reading a novel titled “The Giver”! The students are excited and have asked to read this novel.

8th Literature-  8th grade has finished reading  “Flowers for Algernon”. They have created wonderful one-pagers that will be hanging in our hallway!   We will be starting our very first novel of the year!  The novel we will be reading will be “The Hunger Games”.  The students are very excited!  This will be one of our books for our battle of the books activity.

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
