Math- We have moved on to LCM(least common multiple) and GCF(greatest common factor).  Students will practice their multiplication facts.  This will help them tremendously with LCM and GCF.  We will work with our flash cards in the classroom and at home. We are going to continue working with numbers on a number line a bit more before we move on to adding and subtracting decimals!

ELA- We have been working hard on our vocabulary words. The class needs to keep all of their notecards from these vocab words to make sure they have them to study.  There will be a test on the first 5o words we learn. We will have been working hard on writing our first personal narrative! The students are either rewriting their first draft or working on their conclusion paragraphs.  Next step will be peer editing!  The students are also required to write a journal every morning. They have a specific time allotted for journal and will be graded on their work at the end of the trimester.

6th Literature- We have continued reading our very first novel “Freak the Mighty”.  We have read up until chapter 10. We will be reading in class, having discussions, and answering plenty of comprehension questions.

7th Literature- We will be starting “The Giver” on Monday! The students have been working on a presentation in the classroom.  They will present to the class this week.

8th Literature- We will be starting our very first novel of the year!  The novel we will be reading will be “The Hunger Games”.  The students have been working on a brochure project in groups.  They have been creating their own little utopia!   We will begin reading the novel on Monday.  Students are responsible for their books, reading any assigned chapters, and any work that is assigned to them.

Junior High Class Model:

Along with various specials teachers, students will be switching for Social Studies (Mrs. Van Wyck), Science (Ms. Fogle) and Religion (Mr. Ochoa) throughout the week.  This gives students a feel for switching courses and having many different teachers and teacher expectations as they prepare for high school.
