Here’s what we’ve been learning about in our classroom!
ELA: We continue to build up our vocabulary knowledge that ties in with our i-Ready lessons. Some kids have already recognized some of the words in their lessons and in their work! Please practice these words with your children weekly. We took a break this week, but we’ll get back to it next week. We are also working on identifying subjects, predicates, and making sure our sentences always begin with capital letters and end with ending marks.
Math: We are building up on our knowledge of multiplying multi-digit numbers and exponents. The students are working very hard to remember to add placeholder zeros when we multiply with 2-digit numbers! Please continue to work on your multiplication flashcards, as next week we will start our lesson on multistep problems! I also offer lunch sessions for extra help with math, so please encourage your child to come to them if they are struggling. We got this!! Parents, I am also setting up the Math website so that you may walk through the lessons with your children.
Religion: We completed our first lesson, and have completed a lesson on empathy. Now more than ever, having empathy is incredibly important! We came up with some expectations for these lessons, which we will revisit throughout the year. Next up in religion, we will learn about evangelization, and Corporal and Spiritual Works on Mercy.
Science: We completed our lesson on the Conservation of Matter and celebrated with a DIY Lava Lamp! All you need to complete this is a clear bottle, a balloon, vegetable oil, water, food coloring, and an effervescent tablet like Alka Seltzer. A scale to weigh before and after is optional, but really fun if you want to see that the weight of the lava lamp does not change! Next up, we will learn about the Properties of Matter!
Reading: We will complete our first whole class novel, George’s Cosmic Adventure next week. It has been a delightful and educational read, which will prep us for our science lessons on the solar system and space! We will have one more quiz on the last few chapters, then we will celebrate with a fun project!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions! Have a wonderful weekend!
