  2. Regular lunch and snack day.
  3. Friday is an early dismissal, 2pm.
  4. Mass begins at 9:30.
  5. I will let you know which side of the church your child is sitting and then you will know where to sit (either the “tabernacle side” or the “holy family side”–both sides will have reserved pews for kindergarten families).
  6. It will be a regular Mass followed by the song performance. Plan to be at church until about 11:00.

Classroom Christmas Party: We still need PLAIN VANILLA CUPCAKES–Jewel across the street should be able to do this!!  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090E48ADAC2FA20-46612862-kindergarten

What’s Due:

  • New boom cards: new boom cards were posted.  I will reset the links so when they expire on the 24th so they will still be active over break.

This Week:

We started the week with some excitement…we were GRINCHED!  The Grinch certainly had a lot of fun in our classroom and really made quite a mess! At least he left us chocolates! 🙂

We wrapped up our gingerbread man unit.  Ask your child about his/her favorite story.  What made it your child’s favorite?  The characters? The ending?  The illustrations? We read the final story, Gingerbread Man Loose in the School and then went on our own gingerbread hunt! The gingerbread man ran right out of town, but he did leave some cookies behind for us!

We ended the week with a visit from our 8th grade buddies.  They brought their favorite Christmas/winter picture books and read to us before rest time.  We gave them a candy cane to say, “thank you!”

Next Week:

We will light the third pink candle on our advent wreaths which symbolizes JOY!

We will be very busy practicing for the Mass and song performance!

Language Arts:

Super Kids: We will hear from “Ettabetta” next week.  She will teach us about that tricky vowel sound, /e/.

Journaling: I am so proud of how well the kids are doing with their daily journaling.  Current expectations:

  1. Generate own topic
  2. Write at least 1 sentence.
  3. Finger spaces in between words.
  4. End with punctuation.
  5. Correctly spell word wall words.
  6. Independently write words… “write the sounds you hear!”
  7. Detailed picture

Math: Go Math, Chapter 5: addition: we are halfway through chapter 5!  We will come back in January and continue to focus on addition with the goal being to learn to fluently add within 5 and also add within 10. By the end of January, we will start subtraction.

  • Counting to 60 by 1s: Practice at home!
  • Counting to 100 by 10s: Practice at home!
  • Counting to 100 by 5s:  Practice at home!
  • Count forward from a given number (except 1)
  • Writing & Representing to 20
  •  Answer “How Many?” up to 20
  • Greater Than, Less Than or Equal To (to 20)
  •  Represent Addition to 5 with fingers, drawings, sounds; our kindergarten goal is to be able to “Fluently add and subtract within 5 (so we want this to become automatic)”  and “add and subtract within 10 (by using drawings, fingers, objects, etc.) At home: find ways to incorporate addition: “there are two plates on the table, how many more do we need to make 4? (missing addend)”  “There is 1 cookie on your plate.  If I give you 2 more, how many will you have?”
  • We will work on our “doubles addition” up to 5 and knowing those automatically: 1 + 1, 2+2, 3+3, 4+4 and 5+5

Religion:

  • We will gather around the crib daily to share kind deeds. It will be our final few days of doing these.  Please continue to encourage your child to look for ways to be kind to others! These are our presents for baby Jesus on His birthday!
  • We will practice the songs and poems e plan on presenting to you at the Advent Mass.
  • We will light the third on our Advent wreaths.
