Ms. Skinner’s Classroom Updates 10/24

Good morning! Another week down at St. Cletus and it’s been a fun one. Before we recap the last week, let’s go over some important dates:

Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Every day there is a themed event:

Monday: $1 for Breast Cancer Awareness. Wear Pink!
Tuesday: Crazy sock day! Bring a canned/boxed food item.
Wednesday: Decades Day – dress as your favorite decade.
Thursday: Hawaiian Shirts and shorts/comfy clothes.
Friday: Happy Halloween! Wear your costume.

ELA: The students have been working on mastering the use of proper nouns, distinguishing the sounds of sc and gn, and have worked on their Personal Narratives! The final copy of the Personal Narrative was due on Wednesday, and I can’t wait to read what the students have written! Next up, the students will create a fictional story.

Science: We have started our lesson on Chemical vs Physical Changes. To start, I demonstrated mixing yeast, soap, and hydrogen peroxide to make a mini “elephant’s toothpaste” to show what a chemical change is. Next week, I will have stations set up so the students can continue exploring the differences between a chemical and a physical change.

Math: Now that the multiplication module has completed, we have moved on to the division module! We will need those multiplication facts, so keep practicing. The students have also created several division word problems, which is great practice for not just the test, but for every day. Next week, we will get into 2-digit divisors!

Religion: Soon, we will finish up our overview of the sacraments and then get a more in-depth view of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation. Ask your child to name as many Sacraments as possible!

Reading: We have started our next book, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, which is a story about a young girl who moves from Barbados to Puritan Connecticut in the 1600s. It is a story about remaining true to yourself and personal choices. Some of the vocabulary in this book is challenging, so I have printed words and definitions. Encourage your child to always take note and look up a word that is unfamiliar to them!

That’s our week, please enjoy a few photos from last week’s Fort and PJ Day and from our science experiment!
