6th Grade News- 11/21/2024

Hello 6th grade families!

Halloween was a blast and we had so much fun!  Thank you to our volunteers who came and helped with the party and also to everyone who sent in items to make our Halloween party great!! We are ending our trimester!  How exciting!  The kids have been doing great and working hard in class.  We have started adding I-Ready packets into our homework and this will be seen more after Thanksgiving break.

Our PBIS program has switched to earning raffle tickets!  The students have been earning those PBIS tickets as they show their compassion, consideration, and kindness through out the school.

We had a PBIS assembly on 11/20 and 6th Grade has won classroom of the month!  I am so proud of them! They really do a great job!

November 22 –Final grades are due! $1 dress down day! Wear WHITE for lung cancer awareness!

November 26 – We have an 11am dismissal. 12:30-8pm Parent Teacher Conferences! Please sign up if you have not done so already!

November 27-29 – Thanksgiving Break. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

Literature- We are reading and discussing Where the Red Fern Grows and hope to be finished just before Thanksgiving break.  This book is part of our Battle of the Books event.  Once we finish Where the Red Fern Grows, we will start reading Across Five Aprils.  Once we have read both books, we will participate in Battle of the Books on December 19th at our school.

Math-  We finished our work on decimal operations and have started working on Ratios!  We will continue working on Ratios when we come back from break.

Social Studies-  We have been diving deep into American Government.  Students have been learning all about the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches.  We are starting a research assignment on a Supreme Court case.

ELA-  We have been working on our 100 vocabulary words! The students took a test on the first 50 words!  Once we come back from break we are going to start studying 14 words a week! We have also started working more on grammar rules and will start a book report on a Historical Fiction book of their choosing.  I’ve told them to start thinking of some books they might want to give their report on!

I-Ready- We are in full swing with I-Ready!  I had a talk with all 6th grade students about the importance of I-Ready.  We are going to continue to work hard, and work towards our goals.  I have challenged the students to earn 100% on their lessons, so we could earn a class reward.
