Second-2-None: Weeks of 11/27 & 12/4

We’ve been doing some fun Advent activities in Religion, from creating Nativity scenes to working on an Advent Wreath and a winter scene. Next week, we will focus heavily on our Second Step program, along with some other Advent activities. After Christmas break, we begin our study of the Mass in preparation for Communion.

We wrapped up chapter 4 of Math this week with our chapter test. Next week, we will begin Chapter 5, which will focus on 2-digit subtraction. So, keep practicing those basic math facts.

We have finished our unit on animals in science and will move back to Social Studies to begin our unit on landforms and bodies of water next.

We will introduce cursive next week by talking about some basic pre-cursive skills. Also, next week, we will look at each of the four strokes more carefully before beginning any letters. Once that is complete, we will begin with lowercase letters. PLEASE do NOT teach your child how to write cursive letters. We are teaching it in a very specific order so that he/she can build upon skills. Thank you for your understanding.

With Superkids, we’ve continued learning words with several new sounds. We’ll have one more spelling test before Christmas break. We’ve read 3 different books in our reading groups, as well. Please ask your child about the book he/she read. Next week, we will complete some work using various reading strategies to delve more into those stories. Then, we will move back to our Superkids magazine. Our reading fluency keeps improving using our decodable reader. We’re learning about a new classmate in the story now. In grammar, we’ve looked at some rules for using commas.
