~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  NEWS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Religion:  This week the school will attend a presentation of the Living Rosary on Monday by the 8th grade class.  The class will also be talking about the fact that Jesus died and rose to save us from our sins.  We will learn the meaning of these words: crucified, faith, Kingdom of God, and Bible.  The class will talk about the meaning behind stories like the “Mustard Seed and The Crucification of Jesus”,
Reading:  The students have spent the month of October reading a mystery book to give a report about.  This week the students will give their presentations to the class on both Monday and Tuesday.  We have also finished reading the novel “The Case of the Gasping Garbage”. Students have been introduced to these vocabulary words as we have read the story: culprit, hypothesis, observation, affirmative, efficient, naturalist, habitat, desperate and analysis. The class will take a short quiz about the book on Wednesday.
Grammar:  We begin the third chapter in our Phonics curriculum.  This week the students will review these concepts:  compound words, the number of vowels in a word is the same as the number of syllables, and practice identifying initial consonant blends.
Spelling:  Our words this week contain the LONG E sound.  The students will work with two ways the LONG E sound can be made in words.  These two ways are “ee and ea.”  There will be spelling homework on Tuesday and Thursday nights with a spelling test on Friday.
Math:  This week the students will be completing chapter two in our series.  The students will review how to use and read data from various graphs.  They will be taking the end of the chapter test on Wednesday.  Lessons 37 to 41 should be completed by Friday October 29th.
Science:  The class will work on a review about the tools used when conducting scientific experiments in preparation for chapter 1 quiz.
