Prayer Service:  The third graders present a Thanksgiving Prayer Service each year.  This year the Prayer Service will be Tuesday November 25th (This is also the day of Parent / Teacher Conferences.) at 9:30.  I am reaching out before I assign parts so that I know who will be available to participate.  Please send me an email to let me know.

Parent Teacher Conferences:  If you would like to have an earlier conference I would be more than happy to schedule one with you.

DURING THE WEEK WE WILL:

RELIGION:  This week the class will talk about the ways in which Jesus tells us how much God loves us.  We will also learn about the places Jesus traveled to tell us about the kingdom of GOD.  We will be learning about the meaning of KINGDOM of God and the BIBLE.

Math:  We will begin the third chapter in our INTO MATH SERIES.  This chapter will have the students working on their multiplication fluency as they memorize the facts for 2;s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, 6’s and 10’s.  Please practice these facts with your children at home.

Social Studies:   We will continue learning about communities

Reading:  The class will be reading a novel called “The Year of Miss Agnus.”  The story is about a one room schoolhouse in Alaska.  The story is told from the point of view of a little girl.  As we read this novel the students will be learn the meaning of these terms:  margin, continents, trader, goggled, bunks, deaf,  bluff,  catalog, brittle and invented.

Spelling:  Our new spelling words contain the vowel – consonant – silent e pattern.

Phonics:  We will  work with one – syllable words that have two vowels.  The class will learn that when a word contains two vowels the first vowel does the talking and the second one is silent

Just a gentle reminder about HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!

Nightly Homework:  Please remember that Math and Spelling homework is due back COMPLETED the next school day.  Every Spelling and Math homework assignment is worth 2 points when completed and handed in on time.  Please read the directions with your child so that they understand what they are to do on the pages.

Reading Logs:  Each Monday the students receive a blank copy of the weekly reading log to write a summary about what they read each night.   These logs are helpful as the students are reading the book for the monthly book reports.  These logs are due back in school on Friday and are worth eight points (2 points each day.) toward their reading grade on the report cards.    As your child is filling out the summary section of the log please encourage them to use BEST handwriting.  The students should also write in COMPLETE sentences and include at least THREE to FOUR sentences about what they read.

iReady reward system:

100% CLUB REWARD:  Students are asked to focus on passing as many lessons as they can each week in both Reading and Math.  As a class we spend 45 or more minutes each week working on our individual paths.  Students independently work towards scoring 100% on all lessons in both subjects.  When students do score a 100% on a lesson in Reading they add a bead charm to the Reading side of their Jumbo Safety Pin.   When Students score a 100% on a Math Lesson they add a pipe cleaner charm to the Math side of the jumbo safety.  Once the students fills up the safety pin (each side holds 13 charms), they get a prize.  First time the Jumbo Safety pin gets filled up the student earn their favorite king size candy bar or family size bag of chips.  Prizes for filling up the iRead Safety pins change each time the students fill thier pins up.  Last year there were two or three students who filled the pin up at least four times.

80% or higher:  The whole class works towards earning a whole class reward by scoring 80% or higher on all lessons.  Each student MUST add their name to the prize grid at least 3 times before the prize grid is filled.  The whole class rewards range from a movie afternoon to a pizza lunch in our classroom.  The class can also earn a dress down day or extra recess.    Whole class rewards are on decided by the entire class.

Each student will meet with me on Mondays to check in and talk about their weekly iReady progress.
