Tales From Third Grade: February 23rd to 27th

Hello Everyone!

I hope you have all had a great weekend!!

Don’t forget that our Spring Auction is just around the corner on Saturday March 7th.  Each student is asked to raise $67.00 dollars on or before March 2nd.  If all the students in the class raise the $67.00 we will get a week’s worth of dress down days in May.  The first class to have everyone reach the $67.00 goal by March 2nd wins a pizza party.  We have 4 students who have reached this goal.  We can do THIS!!!!!!!!!  

 

Monthly Project Due Dates

New Monthly Project:  SUPER simple I promise.  March Pictures should be of your child at a parade or celebration .  Please have pictures in March 2nd.  Be sure to include the names of all people in the picture.   

March Book ReportRead a realistic fiction book and keep a reading log for the entire book.  Book ideas will be handed out this Friday February 27th.  Reading logs will be due weekly as usual.  There will NOT be any further projects involved.

March Poems:  Presentations will be March 30th.

March Prayers:  Prayers will be respectfully recited on March 10th.

Important Dates to Remember for the week:

Monday February 23rd:  Historic Fiction Book Report Presentations Begin

Tuesday February 24th Please join us at 8:00am Mass if your schedule allows.  Remember to have your child eat a good breakfast and use the washroom before coming to school.

Wednesday February 25th:  

Thursday February 26th: We will be attending the school play “Descendants Musical”   If you purchased a “Descendants Musical” tshirt for your child they may wear it for a full dress down day.  

Friday, February 27th:  Stations of the Cross at 2:30.  Please join each Friday if your schedule allows.  If you do plan to join us for Stations, please let me know if you would like your child to bring their things to Church so that they can leave with you afterwards.   If you purchased an “AUCTION          T-SHIRT” for your child they have a dress down day and MUST wear the t-shirt.

We will be working hard in the classroom as we:

Religion:  The class will be learning about season of LENT. 

Social Studies:  We are now going to return to Social Studies and learn about the different reigons in our country.  We will also be listening to presentations of the historic fiction book reports.

Math:   This week the class will work with Multiplication and Division problems with factors 3,6,7, and 9.  We will be finishing up Chapter 7 this week.  The students will be bring home a chapter review on Wednesday (Complete EVEN numbers) and Thursday (Complete ODD numbers).  Please go over this work with you child to be sure answers are complete (Label and show work) and correct.   

ReadingOur story this week is “Paul Bunyan and the Flapjack”  The students will be learning the meanings of these vocabulary terms:lumberjack, enormous and sprinkled.

Spelling:   Our spelling words this week have the class working with the /O/ sound spelled aw or o in words like crawl – aw and cost – o.  

Phonics:  The class will be working with suffixes and endings as they add them to base words that have an -e at the end.  They will be learning that if the word ends with an -e they have to drop the -e and add one of these suffixes or endings: -ing, -er, -est, -ed.  We will also be working to learn how the suffixes -ful, -ly, -ness, -less, and -y when added to the end of words changes the meaning of the words.  Suffixes are:  -ful = ful of.  -ly = in a certain way.  -less = without.  -ness = being.  -y = having.
