~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We will be working hard in the classroom this week as we:
Religion: The class will learn how Passover and the Last Supper are related. We will look at the different ways we can take an active part in Mass. SW work with the terms Passover, Eucharist, and Last Supper and assembly.
Growing with God: We will talk about the different Gifts that God has given us and how God reveals these to us.
Science: Last week the clas began Learning about the water cycle and learning the meaning of these vocabulary terms: evaporation, condensation and precipitation. This week we will continue with the water cycle as we attempt to make clouds by using empty water bottles (Please send in large bottles with caps) and a tire pump. The class will also create our own water cycle using dirt, grass, glass bowls, plastic wrap and a sunny day.
Math: The class will continue working with commutative and associative Properties of Addition to add more than two addends. We will change numbers that are challenging to add into friendly numbers ( Ex: 198 + 82 We would add 2 to the 198 to make it 200. We would also subtract 2 from the 82 to make it 80. This would change the problem to 200 + 80 but still have the same answer of 280) I will continue to send the class math pages home each night to help explain what we are doing in class so that homework is easier. I do meet with students after school when possible (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:30) to help with homework everyone is welcome to come. Please let me know. If your child does stay please pack a simple healthy snack.
Reading: The class will begin their work with the story of “Why a Monkey Has a Long Tail” The students will be using the close reading strategy to answer text specific questions. The students will be working to learn the meanings of these words: athletic, gasped, and clumsy
Spelling: Our words this week contain double consonants and end with the letter y.
Phonics: This week the students will review the meanings of given prefixes, suffixes and endings. Students will work to break apart given words as they identify their prefixes, base words, suffixes and endings.
