1st Grade Learning and More! :)

Hi there my wonderful first-grade families! 🙂

Math: Each morning, the students work through their Simple Solutions workbooks for their morning work. We have finished up Module 12 this week and we will begin Module 13 and fly through that hopefully by the end of next week! 🙂

****PLEASE keep up with the homework as it does help build on their own progress with what we have been learning about! 🙂

Wilson: Unit 9 is a longer unit and we have finally finished it! We have learned how to mark syllables and what to look for to determine if it is a closed syllable or open. We have been building our knowledge about nouns and verbs. 🙂 We also have been talking about past, present, and future tenses. We will begin Unit 10 this coming week!

Spelling: We will be having a spelling test this coming week. This week’s spelling words are

Slant, Twist, Slumps, Blended, Trusting.

Sentences:

1.) How could Frank get stung?

2.) I am thinking about the quiz.

Social Studies/Science: This week we have been really able to connect what we have learned about weather and natural resources from science into social studies. We have been talking about Earth Day and how we can help keep our planet safe and clean. For example: To reuse, reduce, and recycle!

Religion: We have been flying through our religion book! We have started talking about the Sacraments and what it means to be apart of the church and what we can do to build on it! We will be having a religion assessment as a whole school starting the week of 4/27!

Reading: We have working together with our small group reading our supplemental reading books along with our decodables. We then begin discussing what has been happened in the stories, and building on our knowledge. We do this at the same time with our resource officer, Mrs. Sigel. Also, we have been able to connect what we have learned about in the books back to what we have been learning about Wilson! 🙂

We have been working EXTREMELY hard with our comprehension (remembering what is going on/happening throughout the story!) throughout our small group reading time as well!

**Remember to keep filling out those reading logs! 🙂 They are due each Monday unless we do not have school so in that case, they would be due on Tuesdays! Thank you!!!!!! 🙂

Earth Day Mass- This Tuesday 4/21 @ 8 am.

This coming week we will be doing our best to eliminate waste. Please consider packing your child’s water bottle and lunch in non-plastic containers and bottles. Thank you so very much! 🙂

On April 23rd, we will have a dress down for $1 in support of Misericordia. A little more about Misericordia below!: Misericordia runs every year is Candy Day.  On the last weekend of April, thousands of volunteers take to the streets of Chicago and its suburbs to collect donations.  Candy Days is one of the key fundraising events for Misericordia.  Please consider a donation to Misericordia.  There is no donation too small.  All donation will help Misericordia continue to  fulfill its mission of caring and improving the lives of its residents.” It is $1 to dress down!

Once again, if you are interested in being a Mystery Guest Reader, please just let me know! 🙂
