Here’s what we will be doing in class this week:

Religion:  The class will begin talking about the different parts of the Mass. We will learn about Introductory Rites and Liturgy of the Word as the first and second parts of the Mass.

Math:  Our new chapter in Math will have the students learning to use expanded forms and partial sums as well as place-value strategies to add 2- and 3-digit numbers.   We will also learn to use flexible grouping to combine place values to subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers.   MSS L 109 – 112 will be due by Friday May 2nd.

Science:  This week we will begin a unit about animals adapting and defending themselves in the wild.  The students will read about camouflage and mimicry and how they help animals survive in their environment.

Reading;  Our story this week is an iReady comprehension passage  “Why Monkeys have Long Tails.”  The students will spend time reading the passage in small groups and with a buddy.  As they are working with the story, they will define terms and answer questions using exact text from the story.

Phonics:  Our NEW and LAST unit in Phonics will have the class working to define synonyms as words that have the same meaning. The class will recognize that antonyms are words that have opposite meanings.  We will also review that homonyms are words that sound alike but have different meanings.

Spelling:  Our spelling words this week will have the students doubling the final consonant in a base word before adding either -ed or -ing.  The students will learn that by doing this they keep the sound of the sound vowel in the word the same.  There will be spelling homework on both Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Pizza Party on Thursday April 17th:  Thanks to everyone for helping to make our 80% iReady Math Goal come true
