Tales From the Third Grade Classroom December 2nd to 6th

Hello Everyone!  I hope you have had a great Thanksgiving Break.

In the classroom the students can earn PBIS tickets as they memorize the multiplication facts 0 – 12.  As each student memorizes these facts, they can ask me to drill them with flashcards.  Once they have done so without a mistake, they earn a ticket.

Here’s what we will be doing in class this week:

Religion:  The class will listen and discuss the story of Lazarus.  The students will learn about the terms Heaven, Last Judgement, Second coming and Stay Awake as they apply to Jesus coming again.

Math:  This week the class will learn to multiply 10 by a single number and how to use Place-Value Strategies to Multiply with Multiples of 10.  We will finish MOD 5 this week and take a test on Thursday.

Science;  The class will finish learning about the Presidents through the presentations of  the scrapbooks.  We will also continue the Science unit about motion.

Reading;  This week the class will read the  iReady informational text  “The Ant and the Grasshopper”   We will verbally ask and answer questions from the students  that start with the questions words: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How.  The students will reread the story to find the answers using the close reading strategy.

Phonics:   This week the students will review the sounds of r-controlled vowels and the fact that the number of vowels in a word tell us the number of syllables in a word.   We will also finish Unit 3 in our book and take a test on the concepts Friday.

Spelling:  Our spelling words this week contain the soft c and g sounds.
