Tales From the Third Grade Classroom May 5th to 9th

Special Thank you to:  Mr. Kirchens, Mrs. Manzano, Ms. Garcia, Miss Mitchell and Mrs. Cabezas for joining us at the Shedd Aquarium last week.  We appreciate you taking the time to come with us and hope you had a great time.  

 

Please be sure that your child eats a good breakfast each morning before coming to school they need the energy to stay focused.  Also remember to send in healthy snacks to enjoy during snack time.

May Prayer will be recited on Monday May 12th.  The May Prayer is the “Hail Mary”

May Poems will be recited on Monday May 19th:  Poems will be sent home on Monday

May Project:  Students will be researching their favorite animals in class.

Fun Things to Remember this week:

Monday, May 5th:  May Crowning Mass at 9:30.  Please join us if your schedule allows. 

Tuesday, May 6th:  Join us for 8:00am Mass if your schedule allows.     

Wednesday, May 7th:  Flag Football at 4:00

Thursday, May 8th:  Heart Association Assembly   

Friday, May 9th:  Father Daughter Dance tonight starting at 6:30

Sunday, May 11th:  Happy Mother’s Day to all our Moms.

Here’s what we will be doing in class this week:

Religion:  The class will continue talking about the different parts of the Mass. 

Math:  Our new chapter in Math will have the students learning to use expanded forms and partial sums as well as place-value strategies to add 2- and 3-digit numbers.   We will continue using flexible grouping to combine place values to subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers.   MSS L 113 – 116 will be due by Friday May 9th

Science:  This week we will begin researching our favorite animal to learn more about them.  This is in place of a May Book Report.  

Reading;  We will be taking the iReady Reading Diagnostic this week.  

Phonics:   We will review that homonyms are words that sound alike but have different meanings.  The students will practice putting words in ABC order and looking up words in dictionaries.

Spelling:  Our spelling words this week will have the students working with contractions that end with either ‘ve or ‘ll.   There will be spelling homework on both Tuesday and Thursday nights.
