Tales From the Third Grade Classroom November 18th to 22nd

Hello Everyone!  I hope you have had a great weekend.

We had have had three more classmates earn their way into the iReady 100% club (click the link to see our new members) so far this month:  CONGRATULATIONS: Eva Totonchi, Olivia Rios and Frankie Navarrete!!  Keep going.  We have MANY more friends that are so very close to filling up thier iReady pins.  iReady 100%

Our PBIS program is in full swing.  The students have been earning those PBIS tickets as they show their compassion, consideration, and kindness through out the school.

In the classroom the students can earn PBIS tickets as they memorize the multiplication facts 0 – 12.  As each student memorizes these facts, they can ask me to drill them with flashcards.  Once they have done so without a mistake, they earn a ticket.

                                                                                    Here’s what we will be doing in class this week:

Religion:  The class will be preparing for the Third Grade Prayer Service this week.  We will be practicing in the Church and then creating signs with the letters that spell out GIVE THANKS.  We will also complete our current chapter in Religion.

Math:  Students will learn to use Place Value as well as the Associative and Distributive Properties  of Multiplication to solve equations that have a 10 (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 80, and 90) as a factor.  PLEASE remind your child that they are NOT to work ahead in their INTO math homework books.   

Science;  The class will start a unit on motion.

Reading;   This week we will begin reading an informational text titled ” Sports Science “   This book is part of our new Science Series.  

Phonics:  The students be writing a story about a turkey this week.  

Spelling:  Our spelling words this week contain Complex Consonants:  ck, wr, sh, th, ch and tch.

Monday November 18th:   Poem Presentations

Tuesday November 19th:  Prayer Service Practice.  Attend 8:00 Mass.  Please join us if your schedule allows.

Wednesday November 20th:  PBIS Assembly

Thursday October 24th:  Presidential Scrapbooks are due. Please go over the reports will your child so that they are comfortable

with the information that they will be presenting.

Friday October 25th:  Flashlight Friday.  $1.00 Dress Down Day:  Wear White to support Lung Cancer

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University. I also have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education as well as being a Certified Catechist.
