Hello Everyone! I hope you have had a great weekend.
I have started a reward system to encourage the students to focus in and work hard on their iReady paths:
As a whole the class is working towards fun prizes: The first whole class goal in READING is to score 80% or higher on lessons. Each student is asked to pass at least 3 lessons with 80% or better to fill up a grid and earn a prize of a home baked treat. The whole class did an amazing job and filled the grid up quickly so this past Friday the kids enjoyed homemade M&M brownies for dessert at lunch time. The whole class MATH goal was to score 80% or higher on lessons and pass at least 3 to help fill a grid for a MOVIE reward. The MATH goal was also reached last week and on Friday we started watching “INSIDE OUT 2” at lunch on Friday. We haven’t finished the movie but will during the coming week.
We will choose two new prizes to work towards as a whole class this week.
Individual Rewards for passing lessons with 100%: Each student is working to pass lessons on both their Reading and Math paths with 100%. When students earn a 100% on a lesson it is marked with either a Bead for Reading or a Pipe cleaner for Math and added to a JUMBO (5 INCHES) SAFETY PIN that is displayed on an iReady 100% Club Bulletin Board. The student’s safety pin is updated on Friday of the current week. When a student fills up both sides of their safety pin they earn an individual prize. The first Prize is their favorite candy bar in KING SIZE. If the student doesn’t like candy then they can request a bag of their favorite chips or pretzels. When a student fills both side of their safety pin, the pin is cleared off and the student begins filling the pin again. The prizes for filling the pin will change each time.
We had our first winner this past Friday October 18th. CONGRATULATIONS: Dominic Wright!!
Here’s what we will be doing in class this week:
Religion: The class will talk about the ways Jesus told us how much God Loves us. We will also talk about the ways we learn about the Kingdom of God.
Math: Students will learn to use the assoc property of Multiplication as a strategy to multiply with three factors.
Social Studies: This week we will begin a unit about Communities. The class will talk about the geography of a community. Describe actions by an individual that changed and improved the community. Each student will create a poster identifying the five different places that they live in: planet, continent, town, state, and country.
