Here’s what we will be doing in class this week:

Religion:  This week the class will talk about how Jesus taught us how to live as his followers.  This will help us deepen our understanding of how to live as Jesus’ disciples .

Math:   This week the class will begin Chapter Two and start exploring area: as attribute of a 2D shape.  The students will learn how to find the area of a shape by counting unit squares.  We will cover a plane figure and find area by counting the number of unit squares.  The students will see that they can relate finding an area of a shape to using an array to find a product of a multiplication problem.

Science:  We will continue the chapter about designing  a solution to a problem.

Reading;  We will continue to take the iReady Reading Dioagnostic.  The students will also finish working with the story “Location, Location, Locations,”as they work with a partner to define unknown words.  Independently the students will answer questions about the story independently.

Phonics We begin the second Unit in our Phonics series this week.  The students will name pictures that have the sound of short a. Read and write words in context that have the sound of short a.  The class will write words with short i as they match rhyming words that have short i.  The students will also sort words according to vowel sounds.

Spelling:  Our words this week contain abstract vowel sounds /ou/ and /oi/.
