Tales From the Third Grade September 1st to the 5th

Welcome to Third Grade

We had a wonderful first week learning routines and meeting new friends.  Our new friends are Eleanor Shilney, Brayden Dorgen and Daleyza Diaz.

This week September 1st to the 5th, the students will watch Fall Fest come to life out in our parking lot.  Pick up and drop off for the week will remain the same.

Monday September 1st:  No School in honor of Labor Day.  Enjoy the long weekend.

Tuesday September 2nd:  8:00am Mass (Please join us if your schedule allows),  Fall Fest Shirts will be delivered today and can be worn for gym and Spirit wear dress down days through the year.

Thursday September 4th:  Fall Fest begins and the BLOOZE BROTHERS band will perform from 7:00 to 10:00

Friday September 5th:  2:00pm dismissal and Fall Fest continues with SONORA DINAMITA performing from 7:00 to 10:00.

Saturday September 6th:  Fall Fest Talent show at 12:00 – 1:00.  INFINITY performs from 8:00 to 10:00.

Sunday September 7th:  Join us for the FIRST RESPONDERS Mass at 10:30, JESSE WHITE TUMBLERS at 2:00, THE BUCKS at 2:30 and then SHAKE BABY SHAKE at 7:00.

Monday September 7th:  NO SCHOOL!!  Recover from all the excitement!!

DURING THE WEEK we will also be doing a lot of learning as the excitement builds for Fall Fest:

Religion:  Mass on Tuesday at 8:00.  As a class we will read and discuss facts about the blessed trinity. Students will learn the meanings of the terms Blessed Trinity and incarnation. 

Math:  We will learn how to solve problems using the commutative Property of Multiplication.   The claas will learn to write related multiplication equations using the same three numbers.  The class will also work with number lines to solve multiplication problems. 

Science:  The class will learn about the term TRAITS as we begin our new science series. The students will learn that:

  • Most traits are passed down from parents.
  • Different individuals have different traits.
  • Some traits are influenced by the environment.

Reading:  The students will be taking the iReady Reading Diagnostic this week.  Please be sure that your child get  a good night sleep and have a full water bottle as well as a healthy snack.  

Spelling:  We will finish Unit One working with the short a and i sounds.  The students will then begin Unit 2 working with the short o and e sounds in words.  The students will be using google classroom this year to complete spelling assignments and the standardized portion of the weekly spelling tests.  This week the students will learn how to find the assignment in google classroom.

Phonics:   The students will work with words that have initial, medial and final consonants to complete sentences..

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University. I also have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education as well as being a Certified Catechist.
Language
