Tales From the Third Grade September 8th to the 12th

Third Grade

 

Monday September 8th:  No School enjoy the long weekend.  Hope you had fun at Fall Fest!!  Title for book reports due today.

Tuesday September 9th:  8:00am Mass (Please join us if your schedule allows)

Friday September 12th:  PBIS assembly.  Prayer will be recited to me privately

Monday, September 15th:  Poems will be presented to the class.

Monday, September 22nd:  Book report presentations will begin this week.  We will present book reports all week.

 

DURING THE WEEK we will also be doing a lot of learning as the excitement builds for Fall Fest:

Religion:  Mass on Tuesday at 8:00.  As a class we will continue learning about the blessed trinity. Students will learn the meanings of the terms Blessed Trinity and incarnation. 

Math:  We will learn how to solve problems using the bar models, number lines and equal groups to solve simple multiplication problems.   The class will begin reviewing for the chapter one Math test they will take on September 8th.  The students should use the math homework that they completed during the last two weeks as well as the review work we will be doing in class to help them study.    

Science:  The class will continue learning about the term TRAITS as we begin our new science series.  During this week we will be looking at common examples of traits you can see include eye color, height and hair color in humans.  Please send a current picture of you and your child to further assist with this unit.

Reading:  The students will continue taking the iReady Reading Diagnostic this week.  Please be sure that your child get  a good night sleep and have a full water bottle as well as a healthy snack.  

Spelling:  We will finish Unit One working with the short o and e sounds.  The students will then begin Unit 2 working with the short o and e sounds in words.  The students will be using google classroom this year to complete spelling assignments and the standardized portion of the weekly spelling tests.  This week the students will learn how to find the assignment in google classroom.

Phonics:   The students will work with words that have  final consonants to complete sentences.  We will also be learning when the sounds of C and G change from their real sounds into their soft sound.  C sometimes makes the S sound when followed by i, e and y.  G makes the J sound when it is followed by i, e and y as well.

My name is Lisa Gearen. I started teaching at St. Cletus in 2003. I taught first grade for 14 years and now teach 3rd. I have a bachelors degree in Communication and a Masters in Elementary Education. I received both degrees from Concordia University. I also have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education as well as being a Certified Catechist.
