Tuesday, December 10th: Christmas Program for grades 1-8 in Church from 7-8.  More information to follow!

Here’s an overview of what we are doing in class:

Math: Module 5 is all about multiplication.  We have been learning how to use the distributive property to break down the numbers to help us multiply them easier.  As the unit continues we will be introduced to multiplying 3-digit numbers.

Reading: We are almost finished with Frindle with Mrs. Firestone’s class and we just finished Frindle in Ms. Pavic’s class.   We have talking about story elements including characters, setting, and plot.   We have practiced making predictions.   We have also been reading Sideway Stories from Wayside School.   We talked fiction and nonfiction and whether things happening in this story could really happen.

Spelling/Grammar/Writing: For Spelling we will be focusing on words with the long U vowel sounds. In Grammar we will be working on parsing sentences. Writing, we will be writing daily about Thanksgiving using different prompts.  Make sure to check out our favorite ones during conferences!

Science: After taking some time away to focus on Social Studies, we are going to dive back into Science and begin to talk about plant parts and their function.  Stay turned for a fun science lab using items that are found in our kitchens!

Social Studies: We are learning all about the Southwest Region! Students are studying the states and capitals within that region. (All 4!) 🙂 Students will also be taking a test to identify the states and capitals within the region. They will be able to retake until they reach 100% mastery. We are learning about the Southwest region, specifically the land and water, natural resources, culture, and landmarks.

Religion/SEL:   In religion we have been starting to talk about the Ten Commandments as a whole and will discussing each of them in detail.  Our SEL lessons center around setting boundaries and problem solving.

Please be sure to revisit the dress code for 1-4th grade.
