The end of November is here!
I cannot express to you how thankful I am for our students. Seeing them learn and grow is very exciting. On Monday, we read Nuestra Clase es una Familia. While reading the story, Frankie A was able to translate sections of the story. We also learned about letter Hh and we added the vocales (vowels) to them. When I asked our students what sound “Hh” makes in Spanish, they all responded by saying SILENCIO (silence). In Heggerty (our resource for phonemic awareness), we have been practicing joining syllables together to make a word. Since we have a visual every week of the letter and vowel, I began adding two syllables together to make a word. An example was, “Tengo (I have) bo y le agrego (and I add) ca,” Felix immediately responded “boca.” Heggerty has been a great resource in our class and our students see our book and immediately know it’s Heggerty time! We also have now learned to count all the way up to 10 and have read the book Diez Puntos Negros.
In preparation for our car show, we have started reviewing different types of vehicles by classifying land, air, and water vehicles. A book we read when talking about vehiculos de la carretera (vehicles of the road) was Vehículos de la Ciudad. Most of our centers this week were car related, our boys had lots of fun and our girls enjoyed playing them too! We also spent some time talking about which car they are selecting for their project. Although their responses are mostly in English, they are beginning to incorporate the colors and other words in Spanish. For our air vehicles, we learned about airplanes and we pretended we were going on a viaje (trip) – and we landed in a different place (shown in the picture gallery below). However, before our students could board the DLI plane, they needed their passports.
Following last week’s PBIS winner, we had an assembly and it was lots of fun! We were able to show our CARDINAL Pride! To end the week we had some quality time with our buddies and we celebrated Friendsgiving by having our buddies help complete a craft donated by Veda and her family! We also enjoyed pretzel’s and juice. The bond our students have created with their buddies is so lovely.
Next week, we will be reviewing our letters, vowels, numbers, and colors and continue expressing ways in which we are grateful. Ms. Sonia and Ms. N have 18 reasons in which we are grateful and those reasons are our students and their amazing qualities.
