Hi there my wonderful first-grade families! 🙂
Math: Homework is from and to be completed through their Into Math homework/practice book! It will be shared on ClassDojo what the math homework is for that night each day! Our morning work has been working through our Simple Solutions workbooks. We have been working hard throughout our module workbooks, and have been learning more and more about math especially in Module 8 where we have been learning about picture graphs, we will learn about bar graphs, and how we collect or show data through them! We will be finishing up Module 8 early next week!!! :))))))
****Please ensure your child is doing their homework each day as it has been more practice for what we have been working on, and it has been helping them with their OWN learning!
Wilson: We have been hard at work with our Wilson program. We have started Unit 7, this is a longer unit! We have been learning about suffixes, especially with the -s. We have been building on that knowledge and learning about our base words and then how we can make them plural! We have been talking about nouns and verbs, and building on that same knowledge! 🙂 We will begin Wilson Unit 8 later on next week! 🙂
Spelling: We will be having a spelling test the week of 3/6! It’s the test we were supposed to have during the cold day. Some friends who were here took it and it seemed a lot harder so I would like to give them more time to prepare. Thank you for understanding!!! 🙂
The words/sentences are:
Stuff, Press, Pinch, Brags, and Vest
Sentences:
- Could Jill munch on her plum?
- Where did the dog stuff the clams?
Social Studies: This week, we focused more on talking about science. The students have been able to show their scientific knowledge while speaking, hoping it will build more and more especially at home! We have gone into a deeper dive with learning more and more about maps, and then speaking more on the events of history! 🙂 We went into a deeper dive discussing what a citizen is and how we can connect to being a good one with our own duties! We then connected this to Religion and how this can be apart of our Lent promise! And we have been keeping track of the Olympics and how those work and what goes on during the each of the events!
Religion: We have been hard at work learning about how we can be a follower of God and Jesus Christ. We have been working through our Religion books each day and discussing how God is present in our lives and how we can show his love in our lives. This then connects to how we have been discussing Lent. We discussed what Lent was, what we can do, and how we can do it by ourselves and then bring in one another all together.
Science: We have been discussing every single day during morning meeting, the weather! We have discussed about heating and cooling and how we can do that with chemical/physical changes. The students have been able to talk about changes, traits, and so much more! The students have been able to share and show their scientific knowledge when in discussions–please let them share what they have learned about at home! We focused more on social studies this past week though because it connected to what we have been talking about in Religion—-with Lent!
Reading: We have been noticing on how in stories–they do start with capital letters, finger spacing, and punctuation! We have been spending a lot more time working on writing to connect to what we have learned about during those said stories! We are also so still very grateful to continue to have Storytime with our volunteering librarian, Mrs. Flood, on Thursday’s as well! 🙂
We have been working EXTREMELY hard with our comprehension (remembering what is going on/happening throughout the story!) We have also been reading a book and then writing a story/a page about it!!! We also have started building on our prior knowledge of Main Idea and key details! **Remember to keep filling out those reading logs! 🙂
