This Week: We had so much fun with one of MY favorite units–Gingerbread stories! We created a chart that helped us keep track of the characters, setting and ending for each story, and used that to make comparisons. We discussed what was similar and what was different. On Friday, the kids rotated through gingerbread centers and we graphed our favorite stories of the ones we’ve read. We’ll wrap things up on Monday with a gingerbread hunt around the school.
Next Week:
Language Arts:
So far, I’ve introduced: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H. Next week, we will work on I and J. In addition to focusing on capital letter formation, Unit 2 is also all about:
- Phonemic awareness skills: blending, segmenting and manipulation of sounds
- Blending and reading 3 sound short vowel words, CVC words (cat, run, big) etc.
- Story prediction
- Alphabetical order
- High frequency/Word wall words: Click HERE for what our word wall will look like by the end of February. We are currently reviewing words, no new words will be introduced next week.
Math:
We will continue modules 4-6.
- Counting to 80. We will now practice counting to 80. At home, please practice counting to 80 (or beyond)! The goal by the end of kindergarten is to count to 100 (or beyond)!
- Addition and subtraction: we are working on writing and solving addition equations within within 5.
- Counting by 10s: We will continue to practice skip counting by 10s to 100. Practice at home!
- Counting by 5s: We will continue to practice skip counting by 5s. Practice at home!
Religion:
- We will continue to gather around the crib and share kind deeds. Please remind your child to do a kind deed each night! This is what Advent is all about–getting ready for Jesus!
- We will be busy practicing our songs and poems which will be presented to you at the end of the Mass on December 19th.
- We have an advent chain in our classroom. Each day we take a link off the chain and read the words on the link. Those words tell us the story of Jesus’ birth!
- We will continue to review the story of Jesus’ birth.
