March News

Hello families!

I hope you are all having a blessed Lent.

Congratulations to all junior high students who were in the play! It was a spectacular show!

Recap for Advanced Algebra:
We are finishing up with systems of equations with Chapter 7 test 3/4/2026. The students seemed to enjoy deciding which strategy to pick–substitution, setting them equal to each other or elimination. If any families have decided to take a Math Placement test at a Catholic High School in May please let me know.

Looking ahead to the rest of term 3.
Chapter 8 Exponents and Exponential Functions (March)
Chapter 9 Polynomials and Factoring (March)
Chapter 10 Quadratic Equations (April)
Chapter 11 and 12 (specific sections) Radicals and Geometry Connections (May)

There is much to look forward to as we finish out the Algebra I curriculum.

Social Studies:
We have been studying the cold war and the Korean War. We visited the National Park website today and read about the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC. Some of the eighth grade have requested to learn more about the exciting places they will see in DC. The National Park website (NPS.gov) is a fun website to check out before you go! We will also visit some other places together in the classroom.

ELA:
We finished the eighth grade vocabulary book – we learned over 250 words! I ordered a copy of the 9th grade book and we are working on those words to get a jumpstart for next year :). Each section of 20 words has synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion, and a story. The students are also writing an argumentative paragraph using examples from the text and their new vocab.

7th grade
Pre-algebra: We have been very busy solving one step and two step equations. We have been being very careful with our negative and positive variables. Now we are ready to solve and graph two step inequalities.

Social Studies: Our focus on WW2 (Chapter 6) is coming to a close with a study guide and test. This test will be a good practice as we move toward the Constitution and then taking the Constitution Test.

We explained why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
We identified how Pearl Harbor changed peoples opinions about war.
We explored the difference between the outcomes at Yalta versus Potsdam conference.
We identified how and why the United Nations was formed.
We discussed post-war actionsleading to the Cold War.
