First Grade Fun!

Hi Parents:
Today is March 6, and we are celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday week!
We had a coloring contest, read his books, received pencils and bookmarks, and have also seen a video about his life. Today we are wearing stripes and a hat. Tomorrow we will wear pajamas and receive a Dr. Seuss hat to wear. Such fun!
In Religion, we are learning about Lent. Lent started yesterday on Ash Wednesday, and we received our ashes. We learned it’s good to give up something, or do something extra nice during Lent. We will walk with Jesus doing the Stations of the Cross every Friday, and also witness the Living Stations. On Holy Thursday, we will perform the “Washing of the Feet” for the whole school. We can’t wait.
In Math, we are starting book 9 on “Making Tens and Ones.” We are moving ahead in math and learning so much!
In Science, we are going to start learning about plants. It’s a perfect time for this as Spring approaches!
In Reading, we are still enjoying the Superkids and all their antics. This week we read about different projects we can do when there is a rainy day. The projects were cute and sparked an interest in our first graders.
Today is the last day of our trimester, so we are getting ready for our second report cards and parent teacher conferences. What a busy time for us all!
If you are looking to tell a friend or neighbor about St. Cletus, please do. We give daily tours and it is a great place to be. Remember, it’s a great day to be a cardinal. You bet!!
