First Grade Fun

Hi parents;
Today is April 9, and we are a little over a week away from our “Washing of the Feet” play. The children have been working so hard on it. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. It will be in St. Cletus Church on Holy Thursday at 9:30 am.
In Religion class, we have been studying and talking about Lent. Holy Week is approaching quickly, and the children realize the significance of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. After our play on Holy Thursday, we have a 2:00 dismissal and we are ready to relax on our Spring break~!
In Language Arts, we are combining sentences, and using precise verbs to make our writing more interesting. We are also learning about prepositional phrases and how they add variety to our writing.
In Reading, we are reading numerous stories in Superkids. We love Superkids because the children are the same age as we are, and have some of the same issues as we do.
In Math, we are learning about place value, and how to determine when one number is bigger than another one.
In Science, we are learning about plants, and how some buildings are even designed after plants. We enjoyed talking about plants, and seeds. Some of us plant gardens and we talked about how Spring is the season to put the plants outside.
In Phonics, we are decoding long vowel sounds and learning about syllabication.
We had a wonderful “Las Vegas Nights” last weekend, and many families got raffle prizes or baskets as a remembrance of that special night. We are still marketing our school, and looking for new families to join us. And remember, it’s a great day to be a cardinal- you bet!!!
